Edupoint Limited is Nigeria’s current “Home Tutoring Company of the Year” awarded and endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Education at the 2020 Educational Technology Summit held at The International Conference Centre, Abuja on March 3rd- 4th, 2020. It utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) to connect students with verified local teachers who deliver one-on-one lessons in any subject, skill or exam, in order to help learners meet their learning expectations, as well as provide passionate tutors opportunity to earn extra income.
The twin problem of growing failure of students in standard examinations such the National Common Entrance, Junior School Certificate Examinations, West African Senior School Certificate Examinations, The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to mention but a few, coupled with the growing population of unemployed youths who have the capability to teach but have no access is the very reason Edupoint was founded to tackle these identified problems.
Put succinctly in global perspectives, Edupoint specifically targets for actualization, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 – “Quality Education” and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8 – “Decent Work and Economic Growth”.
Edupoint’s humble beginning started in 2018 and had it receiving 50+ client requests for private home and skill development lessons, 5,000 tutor applications out of which 3,000 were accepted and reviewed.
This article seeks to outline Edupoint’s achievements in chronological order for purposes of information, transparency as well as provide opportunities for collaboration, partnerships, funding and investments.
January, 2019.
Edupoint was admitted into the Social Innovators Program organized by LEAP Africa in partnership with Union Bank and received acceleration training that empowers and equips young African changemakers with requisite skills and tools for building sustainable enterprises.
February, 2019
Edupoint was selected as a finalist in the Start-up World Cup Nigeria Regionals.
This same month, MEST Africa Challenge, The Pan-African Scale-up Competition in partnership with Microsoft and VC4A selected Edupoint among the top 10 Regional Finalists.
March, 2019.
The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) through its Lagos Innovates provided Edupoint for the first time with an International Standard (24/7 Uninterruputible Power Supply) Workspace at the Maryland Workstation, Lagos via its Lagos Innovates Program.
This same month, Edupoint began its Mentorship and Advisory Support with FORD Foundation.
April, 2019.
Edupoint was inducted a fellow in the African Innovation Fellowship powered by WomEng, in partnership with Royal Academy of Engineering. The induction process took place in Uganda.
June, 2019

July, 2019.
Edupoint won the ICTEL 2019 Starup Pitch sponsored by Lagos Chambers of Commerce, NITDA and the Office of ICT Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
August, 2019.
Edupoint’s co-founder, Oscar Obiora Udebuana was selected a Laureate at the Africa 35 under 35 Awards in the category of Education. The awards ceremony took place in Ghana.
September, 2019.
Edupoint was among the top 10 startups that received the Joan Agha Foundation Grant.
This same month, Edupoint had her first Corporate Social Responsibility Project in Niger State where it fed, trained, taught and provided relief materials to Internally Displaced Children.
October, 2019.
Edupoint was selected among the top 30 applicants at the Maiden Africa Netpreneur Prize by Jack Ma.
This same month the International Telecommunication Union and The Republic of Korea selected Edupoint as one of the top 10 global startups at the ITU Innovation Digital Challenge.
November, 2019.
Edupoint was selected to pitch at the Demo Day of SHE Leads, and emerged 3rd out of over 20 startups selected nationwide.
Edupoint was also selected by the VFD Group as one of the eight(8) beneficiaries of the VFD Group Training and Grant.
Edupoint was named alongside three Nigerian startups as outstanding fellows after successfully completing the 2018/19 Social Innovators Program and Awards and demonstrating the highest growth in their enterprise. The Award recognizes an outstanding SIP Alumni who have translated the learning and professional insights acquired from the fellowship into channeling innovative solutions to address critical social problems in society.
Edupoint hosted the World Association of Girls Guide at its office to share more information about what is being done at Edupoint for purposes of gaining more insight into social business leadership, management and operational procedures.
December, 2019
